Animal Bedding Study

Steve Storch of Natural Science Organics, in conjunction with Progress Earth, performed a study for an animal bedding company to determine the efficacy of using biological inoculations (Genesis Compound) in composting horse manure/bedding. One 3.2 cuft bag of bedding was added daily to each stall, Three stalls were used, with the waste from each stall being removed daily and left to compost in its own pile in the same conditions. The piles were not turned in order to ensure sameness throughout, being simply left to the elements. The variables were as follows:
RED pile = no inoculation
GREEN pile = 1/3rd of a cup of Genesis Compound added to each 3.2 cuft bag of bedding
BLUE pile = same as GREEN pile, except pile was sprayed with compost teas at our discretion

RESULTS
Dry weight of 1 gm of fresh material = RED (0.29), GREEN (0.50), BLUE (0.51)
This means that the RED pile (untreated) retained 71% moisture, while the GREEN and BLUE piles both drained to perfect aeration, or 50%. The difference here is accomplished directly and solely from microbiology added with addition of Genesis Compound. Project this onto your lawn or garden. Homeowners pay good money to have their lawn aerated annually. The reason for this is that there is no life in the soil, which is also the origin of thatch. Consider that by adding living organisms regularly to your landscape that there is no reason to aerate or de-thatch the soil, the organisms do it for you!

Notice how much higher the organism numbers are for the RED pile versus the other two. This does not mean there are more organisms involved, but that it is taking the RED pile longer to decompose, or the inoculated piles are further along in the process. This is directly due to deliberate inoculation of the GREEN and BLUE piles with Genesis Compound.
